June ’26: Looking to the Next Phase…(& Lots of Events!)

Aug 18, 2026 | News

Dear Clear Mountaineers,

With spring, we look towards the next phase of creating the monastery, complete with numerous upcoming events! Apart from the previously-announced teachings (see below), we also have motioned towards the monastery’s next phase in the new Land Development page, and begun connecting community members interested in moving near the monastery through a “Want to Move Near the Monastery? (Networking & Support)” WhatsApp group and quarterly Zoom session (first is 6-7 pm PT Mon. July 6!).

And, of course, we have a wonderful assortment of other events to look forward to: our annual interfaith meditation, chanting, and song service at Saint Mark’s Cathedral (June 9); an evening teaching by Bhante Rāhula on turning challenges into allies, hosted at Seattle Insight (June 18); our Annual Almsgiving Celebration, this year with the especially joyful subtitle “Now We Build the Monastery!” (June 20); and a daylong retreat with Bhante Rāhula and others on the theme of confidence in the path. In July, Ajahn Nisabho and Ayyā Ahiṃsā will offer a daylong retreat in Spokane on brightening the heart. And we are deeply honored to be welcoming beloved and venerable Thai Elder teachers for both an evening and a morning teaching — details below.

Wishing peace and joy to all beings!

Annual Almsgiving: Clear Mountain Annual Celebration on June 20th

“Clear Mountain Almsgiving Celebration: Now We Build the Monastery!” (“pah bah”–ผ้าป่า in Thai) is a joyful tradition where the lay community offers food, cloth, and financial support to Buddhist monastics and their practice. It’s a beautiful opportunity that brings happiness and spiritual benefit to both the givers and the receivers. This year, offerings will help Clear Mountain build a permanent home for the future monastery—a growing refuge for all.

Monastics planning to attend this year include Ajahn Sudanto from the Pacific Hermitage, Ajahn Cunda from Abhayagiri, Ayya Ānandabodhī, Ven. Sīlānandā, Ven. Satimā, and Anāgārikā Khemā from Pārāyana Vihara, Ayya Suvijjānā and Ayya Niyyānika from Passaddhi Vihara, Bhante Rahula from Paññabhūmi Monastery, Sāmaṇerī Juṇhā from Magge Vihara, and Maechee Paññasirī from Thailand.

July Daylong Retreat: Beautiful Liberations to Brighten the Heart with Ajahn Nisabho & Ayyā Ahiṃsā (Spokane, WA)

Join Ajahn Nisabho and Ayyā Ahiṃsā for a day of meditation and teachings, 9 am – 5 pm on Sunday, July 5th, in-person at Harmony Woods Retreat Center outside of Spokane, WA (11507 S Keeney Rd, Spokane, WA). Note that Clear Mountain’s weekly Saturday gathering in Seattle will still be held as usual.

The Buddha encouraged us to brighten the heart by giving attention to sublime qualities, including loving-kindness (mettā), rejoicing (muditā), and objects which kindle joy (pamojjā). By bringing awareness to the beautiful, in both meditation and daily life, we nourish the mind so it has strength to liberate itself from suffering.
