Join Clear Mountain’s monks as they inaugurate their move to the new monastery land through a three-day walking pilgrimage, Saturday, Aug. 29 – Monday, Aug. 31, from Saint Mark’s Cathedral to Clear Mountain Monastery in North Bend. The full schedule, with stops, may be found below, or on Google Maps (Sat. Aug. 29, Sun. Aug. 30, Mon. Aug. 31). A video describing the new land and visioin may be found here.
For full details, and a route description, click here.
Though the monks will plan to be on the land from late August onwards, preparing the monastery to receive visitors and leading a retreat in Canmore mean that daily visiting hours and almsround in North Bend are scheduled to begin only towards the end of September (details forthcoming!). We especially rejoice in the many, many volunteers who have given their time refurbishing the land’s existing structures and preparing it to receive monastic residents and visitors!
The end of summer also comes with a variety of other events, from a live-streamed discussion panel between near-death experiencers and Buddhist monastics, to a weeklong retreat with Ayya Anandabodhi and Ajahn Kovilo. Find more details below!
May all beings be well!

The full schedule, with stops, may be found below, or on Google Maps (Sat. Aug. 29 , Sun. Aug. 30, Mon. Aug. 31). Anyone who wishes may join for meal offerings or any daytime section of the walk (the monks will sleep alone). A video describing the new land may be found here.
For full details, and a route description, click here or the link below. Welcome!
Though participants are encouraged to note relevant Park & Rides, and organize “shuttle buddies” (a link to Clear Mountain’s WhatsApp community & carpool subgroup may be found here), some volunteers will be available to shuttle walkers back to their parked cars after periods of walking. The walk, an act of dedication and celebration, will be carried out in noble silence (though brief greetings and conversation during rest breaks and meal offerings are welcome), as a chance to develop walking mindfulness and metta meditation, dedicating the merit of practice to the creation of a refuge of Dhamma for all. Especially convenient waypoints to join the walk include morning departures and midday meal offerings (see below for schedule). We hope all who wish can walk with us for at least the first 30 minutes after the Sat. Aug. 29th gathering (11:30 am-noon, through Volunteer Park). Please bring a water bottle and ample nutrition for any section of the walk you join for. If you have questions, you may contact Bonnie Kosmyna at bmkosmyna@gmail.com. Please note that times and distances are approximate. Your may find updates on the walks’ current location and photos on Clear Mountain’s WhatsApp Community Seattle Events subgroup. May all beings be well!

The annual conference of the International Association of Near Death Studies (IANDS) is scheduled to be held in Seattle this year, Aug. 27 – Aug. 30. Though those inspired may register to attend in-person (Ajahn Nisabho will plan to be there all day on Saturday, Aug. 29), and speak with the multitude there who’ve had near-death experiences (NDE’s), IANDS has agreed to, for the first time ever, offer an event freely via livestream – a panel between two Buddhist monastics (Ajahn Nisabho and Ven. Sangye Khadro) and two Near-Death Experiencers, speaking about the convergence of such experience and the Buddhist worldview. We want to express special appreciationg to Steve Wilhelm for arranging this beautiful conversation, and hope many of you can attend, online or in-person. Find out more by clicking the link below.

Both-And: Exploring the Internal, External, & That Which Goes Beyond
Join Ayya Anandabodhi and Ajahn Kovilo for this 6-night, 7-day residential retreat, hosted by Bellingham Insight Meditation Society (BIMS) on Samish Island. The retreat will be held from Sunday, September 20th to Saturday, September 26th at the Camp Samish retreat facility.
The Buddha’s teachings invite us to look closely at our experience—not just what happens within us, but how we interface with the world around us, and the freedom of integrating, harmonizing, and feeling through both worlds. This retreat aims to bridge these dimensions by integrating deep internal knowing, relational or environmental awareness, and meditations that point toward the unconditioned. By exploring this “both-and” nature of practice, we can cultivate a spacious presence and profound insight, enriching our spiritual journey and overall well-being.
